Mission Residents Pleading to City to Help Prevent Flooding

A family in rural mission is pleading the city for help after severe flooding blocks them from leaving their home. But so far, they’ve gotten nowhere with city officials.

I visited an area in rural Mission, which was devastated by the recent rain fall–with residents wanting answers from authorities as to when they will get help. The Ibarra family is only one of the approximately 15 families that are affected by flood that exists on Texan Road, which runs right in front of their home–looks like a river and is easy to get stuck in, according to neighbors.

The Ibarra family, along with other residents, are asking authorities to take action. We went directly with Domingo Villarreal, coordinator of precinct 3 of Hidalgo County, who told us via telephone, for the moment they are working on fixing other flooded areas, saying the priority is to help the families who are flooded out of their homes first. Access to the neighborhood is difficult for most residents; i was even caught up in the mess, getting stuck in the mud as I drove through the area.
