Federal funding will help increase the access to clean drinking water for Laredo and Nuevo Laredo.
Congressman Henry Cuellar announced 5.8 million dollars will assist the border region with a number of infrastructure projects that will help decrease wastewater discharge into the Rio Grande River.
“There are roughly between three to five gallons of raw sewage being disposed into the Rio Grande on a daily basis. That is what I understand and so with this process, we begin to address it.”
Officials say the Rio Grande is one of the 10 top rivers that are the in the endangered list.
