Controlled Brush Fire Gets Out Of Control

Edinburg (KFXV) — A controlled brush fire got out of control sending two people to the hospital.

The smoke was so bad a young girl and a woman had to be taken to the hospital after suffering asthma attacks.

Rueben Gonzalez and his family were forced to leave their home when smoke filled the air. Neighbors say they noticed the smoke coming their way at 7 this morning and it kept some from going to work.

Fox 2 cameras were rolling as men, women and children were on the streets for hours unable to go near their homes. Hidalgo County Precinct 4 was conducting a controlled brush fire when plans took a different turn.

The fire was contained to the fenced property were workers started it but the smoke billowed out provoking evacuations.

The condition of the young girl and another women affected is unknown. EMS was called out to assist neighbors. Jugs of water and support from each other was what these families used to get through a day they will not soon forget.
