The health department is trying to reduce the city’s COVID-19 positive percentage rate and says this can be done by practicing preventative measures.
City officials reported a 14.86 positive percentage rate in June. Now, that number has skyrocketed to 37 percent.
“Our percent positive rates continues to increase. That is directly related to our community residents not following the preventative measures that have been shared since day one”
Richard Chamberlain-Laredo Interim Health Director
Health officials continue to stress the importance of wearing your face cover, washing youer hands, avoding social gatherings.
“Our social gatherings cost people to end up in the ICU, to be on ventilators, for them to die. And for those who are asymptomatic, which we have heard of cases of individuals who end up with heart problems, blood clots, brain problems.”
The health department says they are aiming to drop the number of positive COVID -19 cases to below five percent and say the safety guidelines are everyones best defense against the virus.
