According to representatives from the Laredo Border Patrol Sector , the COVID-19 pandemic has halted human smuggling attempts.
Agents say the Interstate 35 checkpoint is a hot spot for this type of activity since smugglers want to take advantage of the busy traffic.
“I think the smugglers are just trying to beat the numbers, Trying to exploit the fact that we are very busy. We get a lot of traffic, about 11,000 vehicles come a day through the checkpoint.”Cody Hill-Special Operations Supervisor
Federal agents say their workload did not decrease since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
Laredo Border Patrol warning immigrants about the dangers of crossing into the United States illegally, especially during the hot summer days.
