Economy Continues to Suffer From Restrictions at the Ports of Entry

The Department of Homeland Security extended the travel restrictions at ports of entry. Local business owners say they will continue to lose profit due to limited border crossing.

The restrictions were first put in place in mid-March and continues to be extended for 30 more days . During the months of April through June in 2019 , Laredo reported 855 million dollars in sales.

“I’d say that we still lost about 50 percent of sales possible compared to last year. We probably lost over 100 million dollars in retail sales each of these months.”
